What is Climacophobia?

Climacophobia is the fear of stairs, fear of climbing stairs and fear of falling down stairs. Climacophobia develops when someone has a bad situation or traumatic event occur in their life involving stairs (i.e., seeing someone fall down stairs, losing ones breathe and passing out before reaching the top of the stairs, seeing someone die from climbing or falling down stairs, etc.). Climacophobia is considered a social phobia because despite the understanding by the individual and reassurance by others that there is no danger of in climbing or falling down the stairs they still panic. However, some might think Climacophobia would be considered a specific phobia because the sight of the stairs could cause someone to panic, but this type of fear is actually called Bathmophobia, which is the fear of stairs, stairways or steep slopes. You can find more information about social and specific phobias on the home page.

What are the symptoms of Climacophobia?

As with any phobia, the symptoms vary by person depending on their level of fear. The symptoms of Climacophobia typically include extreme anxiety, dread and anything associated with panic such as shortness of breath, rapid breathing, irregular heartbeat, sweating, excessive sweating, nausea, dry mouth, nausea, inability to articulate words or sentences, dry mouth and shaking.

Can I take medicine for Climacophobia?

Medicine can be prescribed for Climacophobia. Please note that these medications can have side effects and/or withdrawal systems that can be severe. It is also importation to note that medicines do not cure Climacophobia, at best they only temporarily suppress the systems. However, there are treatments for Climacophobia, which include counseling, hypnotherapy, psychotherapy, and Neuro-Linguistic programming. Please click on the link at the top of the page called “Treatment Information” to find out more information on these types of treatments.

For the playground , Our target is : Phobia of falling down.
As you can see, to help those children who has phobia of falling down,
Most of the features of the playground will be supported with railings. and the ground will be soft, so as they will prevent getting injured.
And we'll be using sand,recycled cardboard,icecream sticks,cotton wool,construction or recycled paper,vanguard sheet,corrogated board.

Some features of our playground will be: the slide, swing, bridge, seesaw, trees and benches and of course, the bridge.

And with the help of all these sources, we hope we can build the most perfect playground for them.

I will soon upload the pictures of the raw materials.

First Playground:

Second Playground:

Third playground:

For the playgrounds mentioned, there are many good and bad points of the playgrounds found in Tampines. We shall talk about the good points of the playgrounds first.
Firstly, there are railings to support us,thus, preventing us from falling down easily.
Secondly,The flooring of the playground is mainly made up of rubber, which means if it rains , rubber flooring dries up faster than sand, sand is very unhygienic as it is used as a cats "litterbox".Last but not least,Different things are suitable for different ages.So as you can see,Smaller slides are for smaller children, etc. The Rock in the third playgrond is fun for people who find the other things such as slides boring.

However, there are also bad points found in the playgrounds mentioned.Firstly,The gap of those "bridges" are too wide and big, small children might slip off and fall.Secondly, the ladder mentioned in the first picture also might be dangerous for children,it is hard to climb down and they might fall down.Although the rubber minimizes impact to the ground if one falls, its is easier for one to get scrapes and cuts due to the rough slightly sharp edges acting against friction. The ladder in the second picture is also dangerous for children, the gap is too wide and if they did not climb properly, they might fall through the hole. For the third playground, it is very difficult for children , even for us to climb that "rock", as the rocks are made small in size,it is hard to stand firm and might fall.

This proves that Tampines Playgrounds could be further improved so that it could be suitable for children of different ages.

Overshadowing.
The Evil Spell:
It is named as the Evil Spell as it is raining , And they are unable to get to Terabithia, they feel that it is a curse.

It has been raining for a week, and Jess and Leslie are going crazy. Finally Jess suggests that they go to Terabithia anyway, and Leslie agrees. When they get there, they find that the creek has swollen enormously. Jess, who has always been somewhat afraid of the water, does not really want to go, but Leslie persuades him. It continues to rain, and with each day that the creek gets higher, Jess's fear mounts, until he ends up lying awake at nights worrying about it. He doesn't feel that he can tell Leslie of his fears, but each day it gets harder and harder for him to swing across the creek.
This probably is showing that something terrible might happen further on.

The Perfect Day:
It is named as The Perfect Day as Jess gets to go out with Miss Edmunds to the city.

The chapter is focused around one central area, the beauty of Jess's day with Miss Edmunds to the total opposite of Brenda telling Jess that Leslie is dead. The two sides of the life is shown: the world in which everything is right, and the world that silently drops away without a moment's notice, and also how the most perfect moment can turn with absolute suddenness to pain and fear. There is a notable lack of foreshadowing in this chapter, too, there is some sort of sign of what is going to happen, hints dropped here and there which soften the blow. Jess was having a good day with Miss Edmunds but came home to realise that Leslie is dead, this
roughly tells us what will happen in the next chapter ..
